Let’s look at how CBD can help for Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disease that causes a thick, sticky mucus to accumulate in the lung and digestive tract. This results in life-threatening lung infections and serious digestive problems. Not only that, the disease can affect the sweat glands and the reproductive system of a man. Cystic fibrosis is common in children and young adults, symptoms include fever, cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, loss of appetite and sinus pain.
Cystic fibrosis is associated with an altered endocannabinoid system (ECS), which causes an imbalance of fatty acids. In addition, studies have shown that, with cannabis treatment, the body’s ECS will normalize, leading to improvements. Also, the CBD oil containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) has been shown to be highly beneficial for those suffering from the disease. CBD and THC are compounds of the cannabis sativa plant that contain valuable properties. In addition, CBD has anti-inflammatory, antidiarrheal and antibacterial properties. THC can relieve nausea and vomiting as well as having bronchodilator and analgesic effects.
Traditional treatment includes higher doses of antibiotics to treat lung and sinus infections, inhaled medications to open the airways, DNAse enzyme replacement therapy to dilute mucus, flu shots and PPV once a year, oxygen therapy and in some cases cases a lung transplant may be an option. CBD can relieve systems of pulmonary dysfunction, malnutrition and imbalance of fatty acids (lipids). CBD has very few and mild side effects; Surprisingly, the side effects could be beneficial for patients with cystic fibrosis. Although there is still no cure for the disease, CBD can help reduce the severity of symptoms.
